Futura 2000 in Conversation Show Poster [Sept 18, 2020] Hosted by The MCA, Chicago. An Instagram Live Event

Lenny McGurr aka Futura 2000, invites us into his studio for a virtual visit to announce the launch of select styles from his collaboration with Comme des Garçons SHIRT. The collaborative capsule collection delivers 12 pieces covered in the Artist’s signature bright graffiti motif.

Futura has been seen at the MCA before in collaboration with Virgil Abloh—his sculptures were featured in Church & State, as part of Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech and he co-created a line of Off-White™ garments with the multi-hyphenate artist and designer.

This virtual studio visit was organized by the MCA Store and the Strategic Communications team and is moderated by Michael Darling, MCA Chief Curator.

Comme des Garçons SHIRT FW20 features three artworks by Futura 2000, remixed by Rei Kawakubo into three distinct prints.

Says Futura himself, “I want to distinguish collaborating with a brand from collaborating with other artists or individuals. It is very generous to collaborate with someone. It's also perhaps a sign of maturity."

Comme des Garçons is the Japanese fashion label founded in 1969 and headed by Rei Kawakubo in Tokyo and Place Vendôme, Paris.
